Basel Zoo
celebrates its anniversary

Basel Zoo, popularly known as ‘Zolli’, is turning 150. 150 years of Basel Zoo means 150 years of conservation, recreation, research and education.

These four primary tasks of a scientifically run zoo are guiding all our anniversary activities, which will make 2024 at Basel Zoo something truly special. Each day offers a wide range of opportunities to get involved, listen, explore and enjoy.

Overview of

conservation

As an oasis for nature conservation, Basel Zoo supports projects to protect wild animals and their habitats across the globe. It is also involved in more than 40 international conservation and breeding programmes for endangered species. It promotes native animals and plants in the spaces between its enclosures.

As an oasis for recreation, Basel Zoo offers a natural park landscape with over 1,000 trees. It invites visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature at the heart of the city and observe animals from up close in a relaxed atmosphere.
